Standard Lesotho Bank Applauds Academic Excellence at the LGCSE and LASC Awards Ceremony
Maseru, Lesotho , 19 January 2026 - Standard Lesotho Bank, in partnership with the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECOL), has reasserted its commitment to education, youth empowerment and national development following the successful awards ceremony recognising outstanding performance in the 2025 Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE) and the first-ever 2025 Lesotho Advanced Secondary Certificate (LASC) examinations.
The ceremony marked the third consecutive year of collaboration between Standard Lesotho Bank and ECOL, a partnership dedicated to celebrating academic excellence and supporting learners at critical stages of their educational journey. This year was particularly significant as it included the inaugural recognition of LASC learners, alongside the established LGCSE programme.
Through this year’s sponsorship, Standard Lesotho Bank provided essential support towards the national examination process for both LGCSE and LASC. This included the provision of marking materials and logistical support that contributed to the smooth and timely release of the 2025 examination results across the country.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr. Makakatlela Robert Makakatlela, Acting Head of Personal and Private Banking, reaffirmed the Bank’s belief in education as a driver of national progress.
“Lesotho is our home, and we drive her growth. When Basotho grow, Lesotho grows. At the centre of that growth is the youth, and our responsibility is to ensure that we walk with them at every stage of their journey, equipping them with the support, discipline and opportunities they need to succeed,” he said.
He further emphasised the importance of strong support systems both at home and at school, noting that academic success is shaped by environments that encourage consistency, ambition and resilience.
During the ceremony, learners who demonstrated exceptional academic performance in the 2025 LGCSE and LASC examinations were formally recognised. Prize money amounting to M30,000 will be disbursed through the Standard Lesotho Bank Future Flex Account, a youth-focused banking solution designed to promote early financial inclusion while encouraging responsible saving and access to modern banking services for learners preparing for tertiary education and future careers.
Mr. Makakatlela further reaffirmed Standard Lesotho Bank’s broader investment in youth development, noting that the Bank currently sponsors 50 students across the country through the provision of high school tuition support. He also highlighted the Bank’s internship and graduate trainee opportunities, which are designed to support young people as they transition from education into the professional environment.
Mr. Makakatlela also invited learners and graduates to participate in the Standard Lesotho Bank Career Expo, scheduled to take place from 9 to 13 February 2026, which will provide career guidance, industry exposure and meaningful engagement opportunities for young people exploring future career pathways.
Since the inception of its partnership with ECOL in 2023, Standard Lesotho Bank has remained a steadfast supporter of education and community development, reinforcing its role in building inclusive and sustainable futures for Basotho youth.
