Maseru, April 30 --- Standard Lesotho Bank's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Mpho Vumbukani says Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a corner stone to the growth of Lesotho's economy.
This surfaced in his remarks at a graduation of skills development programme trainees held in Maseru on Tuesday whereby he indicated that the Bank is true a partner for Basotho towards the growth of their businesses and the growth of the economy which are the centre of the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP II) of Lesotho.
He advocated for use of technology for the SMEs to flourish, saying the world is going into a digital era whereby people can perform transactions wherever they are.
Sharing the same sentiments, Bank's Head of Personal and Business Banking, Ms. Selloane Tsike said through the skills development training, they believe entrepreneurial businesses will flourish, thus help sustain the econony.
She added that the training will go a long way to help entrepreneurs run their businesses effectively, thereby challenging them to always remember why they started so that when failure comes, they could always keep their eyes on the goal.
Speaking at the same event, Training Consultant, Mr. Sam Mphaka thanked the Bank by partnering with them and giving them the opportunity to train the course participants.
He noted that banks are perceived to be profit making organisations, however said Standard Bank has proved it otherwise by giving back to the community.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Mrs. Matiisetso Libetso assured the Bank that information that was imparted to them has fallen on fertile land, saying they will exercise it to transform their businesses for the better.
She stated that through the training, they have an opportunity to interact and make relationships with other businesses, saying that will help them tackle each other with more skills even beyond the training.
Meanwhile, this three weeks training for 60 SMEs equipped participants with skills in areas such as keeping of proper records, strategic growth and exposed them to different electronics currently used in business.
Entrepreneurship Development Programme Banking formally known as the Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) banking or Enterprise Banking which commenced in 2017, aims to foster and influence the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst the society.
In an endeavour to make the Programme a success, the Bank work in close partnership with Basotho Enterprise Development Cooperation (BEDCO), Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA), National University of Lesotho (NUL) and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT).
