M200,000 up for Grabs at the 2017 Independence Cup Sponsored by Standard Lesotho Bank and Metropolitan Lesotho.

Standard Lesotho Bank and Metropolitan Lesotho have once more committed to another three years of support to Lesotho Premier League with the sponsorship of the Independence Cup tournament that takes place at Setsoto Stadium this weekend.

The four finalists are league reigning champions Bantu FC, league runners up Lioli FC as well as third placed Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) FC and  Kick4Life FC, which finished in the Top 4 bracket last season and will be making its first appearance in the tournament. Standard Lesotho Bank and Metropolitan Lesotho have been proud sponsors for the last six years and this edition of Independence Cup is the seventh that the two co-sponsors have invested on in order to join Basotho in the celebration of Independence through football.

Speaking at the official launch Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) Chairperson Mr. John Leuta said the Independence Cup sponsors Metropolitan Lesotho and Standard Lesotho Bank have doubled the sponsorship which is now M1.560 Million for the next three years.

He said the amount will go directly to the teams as prize money saying it excludes marketing, stadium rent and teams playing kit and other logistics.

Mr. Leuta also announced that the winners of this year’s edition will walk away with M200, 000 whilst runners up take home M100,000. He also indicated that individual prizes will also increase where top goal scorer will pocket M6,000, man of the match in each four games to be played during the final will each get M4,000, goalkeeper of the tournament will snatch M6,000 player of the tournament will also get M6,000 while referee and referee assistants will each receive M8,000 per game.

He therefore commended the sponsors for the gesture and appealed to participating teams to dish out entertaining football in order to attract possible sponsors.

In his remarks at the launch of the tournament, the Chief Executive of Standard Lesotho Bank, Mr. Mpho Vumbukani mentioned that with this tournament, the two companies are celebrating the independence of Lesotho and also conveying their appreciation to the support that the nation continues to give to the two companies. ” As sponsors, we are grateful for the support that we continue to receive from our customers who relentlessly buy and use our products because it is with their support that this tournament is possible. We therefore encourage them to join us in celebrating the 51 years of our country’s independence in style.” He concluded.

The two sponsors have committed to support the Independence Cup tournament for the next three years until 2019.
